Distressed chalk paint table top.
I used a very rough grit sandpaper 80 with a medium to light touch and went to work sanding off the white chalk paint layer on the parts of the table i thought would wear naturally with age like the corners of the legs and top.

Now that the table is painted in a creamy off white with a chocolate base underneath we can move on to distressing chalk paint or chalk type paint.

After a few rubs you will see that the paint has been removed.
In my opinion wax does well for sealing chalk paint which is it s sole purpose but not necessarily for repelling water or holding up to high traffic.
