I recently remodeled a 3 rd floor attic for a client.
Ditra bathroom floor.

A finding we had not expected.
It is made of polyethylene creating a waterproofing layer protecting the substrate.
My question is can i install the ditra over the floor leveler or do i put down another layer of plywood 1 4 first.
Do i have to tile over the kerdi band where floor meets wll or can i install pvc moulding.
It provides uncoupling to prevent cracked tile and grout.
The subfloor is 5 8 t g plywood joists 2x12 on 12 centers.
I plan to use the thinner ditra uncoupling membrane.
Ditra can be installed over a variety of subfloors including concrete plywood osb and radiant heated floors.
For heating we were only able to get a heat duct on one side of the floor.
Uncoupling waterproofing vapor management and support to ensure a long lasting installation.
This heat duct reached every room except a small bathroom on the opposite side.
It provides uncoupling to prevent cracked tile and grout.
First time floor diy i would like to install porcelain stone or thin brick on my 1955 kitchen and hall floor.
The subfloor is 3 4 x 7 tongue and groove plank with some knots set on the diagonal.
The stud structure of ditra heat is specifically designed to allow for the easy installation of ditra heat e hk heating cables.
Floor joists are 1 75 x 9 16 oc longest support span is about 12 feet.
It is 6 x7 and the floor slopes a quarter inch over the 6 width.
What do ya think.
I plan on replacing the plywood subfloor in the entire bathroom before adding the ditra floor.
And under the old tile was a thick mortar bed.
There was an alternative product mentioned in the forum thread called protegga which looks to be a slightly less expensive copy of the ditra you can read john bridge s comments about ditra knockoffs on his tile forum.
The price difference between the two products.
Enter schluter systems and this awesome tile underlayment product the schluter ditra xl.
But if it prevents your floor from failing after a few years then it s probably worth it.
